Bumping into Mr. Wiest Posted Friday, May 1, 2015 06:03 PM weist_brad.jpg
I received this email from UD classmate (Earl) Brad Cunningham. Anyone can post in these forums. Should I suggest a few topics so that we can get some discussions going?? Let me know if you want to talk about something specific regarding the old days or the upcoming reunion. And by the way, we need to find more people, PEOPLE!!! I'll post a list of our missing classmates in the very near future (I'm a little preoccupied right now because my son is getting married in 2 weeks so, I am currently busy at the gym trying to lose 50 pounds -- preparing for an important visit to my hairdresser [Edmondo Blando] not to mention organizing the a fleet of other "fixers" who will hopefully make me presentable!) We have a reunion meeting this week, so I will get back to you with more reunion information soon. Whoops, sorry for butting into Brad's email: Hey fellow Upper Darby grads, I hope all of you are doing well and are getting over a tough winter up in Philadelphia. The weather down in The Villages, Florida, has been great, and we are really enjoying retirement. It is a small world out there. Believe it or not I physically met a guy down here in The Villages through tennis who was my home room teacher and my business math teacher at Upper Darby High School. He also taught business law and was head coach of the Rifle Club and some time after 1966 he was soccer coach, tennis coach, and assistant coach for track & cross-country. His name is Milton Wiest. He lived in Media and was a teacher at Upper Darby High School for 30 years, beginning in 1962; he retired in 1992. I found my 1966 Upper Darby yearbook and found his picture in the yearbook before I physically met him; and as soon as I saw his picture I realized who he was. Not only did I find his picture in my yearbook, he actually signed it and wrote a real nice note next to his picture. Boy, is it a small world or what!? Do you remember Milton Wiest?? I took a couple of pictures of him which are attached so if you remember him from then, you can see how he looks like at age 73. I met Milton Wiest while playing tennis doubles against him. Unfortunately I ended up beating him 6 - 0. It felt real good, though. Ha-Ha!! I also attended the 21st Annual Florida Upper Darby High School All Class Alumni Group Reunion luncheon in Punta Gorda, FL on 18 February of this year. There were about 50 Upper Darby grads from 1944 to 1982. I had a great time catching up and hearing some really good stories. I told them about Mr. Wiest, and everyone who attended Upper Darby in 1962 or after knew him and really liked him as a teacher. One of the ladies at my table also said that she had a crush on him. It was fun meeting all those Upper Darby grads in Florida. I talked to Mr. Wiest, and he said he might be interested in attending our 1966 Upper Darby Alumni Reunion on October 16, 2016. Hope to see you all at the 50th Class Reunion Oct. 16, 2016. Enjoy the pictures. Earl (Brad) Cunningham III (Brad “C”)
