Bill Sanders

Billy and I both lived off of Lynn Blvd.  We walked to Highland Park going up the hill and coming home going down the hill.  Usually we both had our trumpets in hand.  Billy was a better trumpet player than I was, and he was also a lot smarter than me.  He didn't rub it in.  He didn't seem to notice it.  He lived on Byberry, near City Line Avenue, and one day in 6th grade we decided we would do an adventure.  Mr. Crist asked us to bring in a "current events" topic every week.  We decided that we would stay out all night, or longer, and eventually it would be reported to the papers.  Then "we" could be the current events project.  We were obviously geniuses.  The creek flowed just below his house (Cobbs Creek?) and we "camped" out one night.  In the middle of the night we heard both sirens, and the shouts of my older brother.  It wasn't such a good idea but Billy was a good friend.  I believe Billy left PA during our college years and went to San Francisco.  I wish I could have stayed in touch and been a better friend.  Another favorite memory of mine is being about three blocks "down the hilll" (Lynn Blvd.) when Billy remembered he forgot to kiss our teacher good-bye.  She did this with many of the students each day.  (Miss Boyd?)  I harrassed him unmercifully but trudged back to school where he received his peck on the cheek.  We enjoyed our differences, I think.
