I think the teacher you are thinking of is Mr. Torop.

Oh, I didn't see your post, Ginger. That's who I think it was, too. I had him for chemistry.

Ginger, I'll check my yearbook. All is well here. Hoping the same for you.

Some of my fondest and funniest memories from UDHS are from Mr. Boyd's Sociology/Economics class senior year. Randy sat directly in front of Todd and the two of them were a constant source of entertainment to me in a below the radar kind of way. Mr. Boyd, a kind man and good enough teacher with a quiet monotone voice, might have put me to sleep if it weren't for Randy and Todd. I heard or read that Todd named his middle son after Randy.

James (Tim): thanks for verifying what was a very distant memory. So distant that I wasn't sure if it was a hallucination or real. Wouldn't be amazing if someone could get a hold of that tape and play it at the reunion? The reason he was at Penn State is that he went to their five (?) year undergrad-MD program. I hope that program no longer exists as it seems like it might drive anyone over the edge to do all that education in such a short time period, especially for a highly creative person like Randy. Another "genius" from our class, Steve Friedberg, also departed far too early. I don't know if I was told it was a suicide or if I just inferred that from his early death. Another great talent...

Ginger summed it up. 2 geniuses who left this earth too early.  The passing of committee members

Tony Delvechio and Rich Schmied affected me.  Tony chaired our earlier committees and was so organized.  Early reunion successes had a lt to do with him.  Rich was the gentle giant.  Always working hard in the background, just like he did as an offensive line man in UD football.  Bob (Sandburg) can verify if you were down on the one yard line the call was to run it in behind "meats".  He is greatly missed also.

I too, was very saddened when I heard of Steve's death. He truly was another genius of our class. I remember so clearly his accompaniment to the concert choir.  On the occasions when I leaf through my yearbook I always stop at the comments that he wrote. He was a lovely guy and so very talented.

I believe Randy's name is READ.  His brother Collier was in my class and died in 1981.  I understand that he was living with Randy in California when he died.  Like Randy, Collie was super smart but also very funny.

I remember Randy well. Very friendly to me. Later I discovered that he worked with my brother in law in San Diego. Small world.

About Rich Schmied.... I can verify that during the Haverford game on the game winning drive we ran every play behind Rich and Frank Scymanski. They told me " we got these guys, follow us! ".And we did,by alternating the running backs but still hitting that same hole! One of great high school memories.
